Our award-winning college offers fifteen certified courses delivered by industry professionals
“Baking on a Budget” courses will consist of ten, one-day (9am – 4:40pm) courses with 10 students in each class open to any student enrolled with any CRICOS provider in the NT.
Many newly arrived international students are fending for themselves for the very first time, and do not have the skills or knowledge to cook nutritious meals for themselves. For many, home baking is an interesting an familiar activity although they may not have done it for themselves. This course will provide students with the basic skills and knowledge to identify quality ingredients and the most affordable way to purchase them; and prepare and bake a range of healthy, tasty and inexpensive products that can be made at home in a domestic kitchen on a student budget.
All participants will receive a recipe book covering the day’s recipes both as a reminder of how to produce the baked goods and also as a memento of an enjoyable day. Participants will share some of their products for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, and take home the remaining products they produce.
Students will be provided with all appropriate PPE (students will be required to provide and wear their own covered, low-heeled shoes). The day will commence with a full safety induction and introduction outlining the day’s program and activities, and appropriate WHS measures will be implemented throughout the day.
The course will be delivered in a friendly, supportive and collegiate atmosphere with an emphasis on enjoying the process, engaging with other participants, while learning about inexpensive baking in an Australian (Darwin) context.
