The Certificate IV in Hospitality qualification provides a pathway to work as a supervisor in hospitality organisations such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. The Certificate IV in Hospitality qualification allows for multi-skilling and for specialisation in accommodation services, food and beverage, and gaming.

You’ll learn all you need to know about providing excellent service and how to manage your own profitable hospitality establishment. Working with our team of international front of house hospitality experts for your first semester, you’ll develop the skills and knowledge you need to thrive in the hospitality industry. In your second semester when you go out into Industry Placement, you’ll deliver the service excellence that customers appreciate and that employers demand. This Certificate IV in Hospitality qualification reflects the role of skilled operators who use a broad range of hospitality service, sales or operational skills combined with supervisory skills and sound knowledge of industry operations to plan, monitor and evaluate the work of team members. They operate independently or with limited guidance from others, and use discretion to solve non-routine problems.

How you study

The first semester of your Certificate IV in Hospitality course is spent undertaking practical and theory tuition delivered on campus, utilising industry-standard equipment in ICAE’s fully equipped training bar and restaurant areas, alongside our commercial kitchen. This is the semester where you will develop the skills and acquire the knowledge that will help you gain your ultimate job for your next semester, Industry Placement.

Your second semester is spent entirely in in the workplace undertaking Industry Placement (IP). IP is where you develop your skills, demonstrate your competence, and build the critical foundations and contacts for a career in the hospitality industry. If you are offered employment for your IP, you will receive a minimum of AUD$17 per hour, and you can work for up to 45 hours per week.

Course structure

All students enrolled in the Certificate IV in Hospitality qualification must undertake all the Core Units, plus 12 electives as guided by ICAE. International students undertake elective units as prescribed by ICAE.

21 units must be completed:
● 9 core units
● 12 elective units, consisting of:
  ○ 1 unit from Group A
  ○ 8 units from Group B
  ○ 3 units from Group B, Group C, elsewhere in the SIT Training Package, or any other current
Training Package or accredited course.
